Hello, I took care of a very dear friend for two years. We started off as being neighbors and then became good friends. When I met her she was 91 and when she died she was 94. Didn't have any family. I found her when she fell two years ago in her apartment. I became her POA. Was there for her through rehab, assisted living and then hospice everyday for four months. She died in May. I really miss my friend. She was so accepting and a really lovely person. Kind, patient and just the best. Being around her I felt like I was where I belonged. She would tell me she loved me and that it was special I came to visit her like I did. I get that I have to go on and move forward but underneath it all I feel so heartbroken and miss being around her. People at the facilities she was at said we looked alike and some assumed I was her daughter- no but I took it as a compliment. I think my friend gave me something very special. I planned her funeral and did her ash scattering in Monterey Bay.
Your friend was blessed to have you in her life and I know you were blessed too to have her in yours.
I believe that God puts people in our lives for a reason and also a season, so hopefully you can now look back and see the reason this precious woman was in your life for this season. I'm guessing you obviously needed her as much as she needed you.
There is a free grief support group called Grief Share that you can look for in your area if you feel you need help with your grief, but after that since it sounds like you're a caring and compassionate person, you may want to look into volunteering for hospice or for a ministry that visits the homebound as you'll then get to continue to share with others the gift of mercy and kindness that God has blessed you with.
I wish you well in your healing and in moving forward in the way your dear friend would now want you to....in her honor.
All the best to you as you mourn your dear friend.
It's devastating to lose a good friend. But life goes on, and your friend would want you to continue to do the things you love to do. I lost my BFF last March to glioblastoma and with her death, life became lot grimmer. Life is not as much fun anymore and I don't think it ever will be. But I manage.
I have fond memories and cherish them. There is not a day that goes by that she isn't in my thoughts. I am so glad for the privilege of being in her life.
