Find Care & Housing
Is anyone spooked by funeral homes? I guess with Halloween around the corner I am thinking of spooky stuff. I had fantastic costumes as a kid for Halloween. I loved trick or treating.

We have the usual haunted houses here. New Orleans has a vampire 🧛‍♀️ culture because of Anne Rice being from our area. Of course there is Voodoo here. Marie Laveau was our Voodoo Queen. So lots of hoodoo and juju in our city too. New Orleans claims to be an extremely haunted city. We have cemetery tours because of our unique cemeteries.

One of the most famous haunted houses here is The Mortuary on Canal Street. It was at one time a real mortuary. It creeps me out. I’ve heard it’s really scary but I haven’t been. I have done some of the other haunted houses when younger but I can’t bring myself to attend one held in a former funeral home.

For the longest time I despised the color mauve because the funeral home that my family used had mauve walls. I always associated that color with death. I could not look at the caskets when my father died. My brothers went with my mom in that room to select one.

I guess the color mauve reminded me of my great aunts and other relatives funerals. People told kids not to be scared because the deceased were ‘just sleeping.’

That gave me nightmares for a long time. I used to think as a little girl that I would go to sleep and end up in a casket and be buried in the cemetery. It’s really a horrible thing to tell children but I guess they didn’t know any better then.

Not to put down clergy of any type but I sometimes wonder if they lose touch with the real world. If they truly want to relate to those they are called to preach to they should at least be as grounded in what's happening in the world today as they are their faith.

CW, if one's minister was concerned that someone was going to euthanize a parishioner, I would hope s/he would reach out to doctors/persons in authority/Family members. Not talk to another parishioner about it. Wrong on SO many levels.

I wondered about that Barb, when he visited with mom I felt that for someone who ministered to a lot of old and ill people he didn't seem to have much of a clue about cognitive impairment or mental anguish.

CW, is he basing his information on what an elderly and possibly demented patient is telling him? Is it possible the lady has been offered Palliative Care and doesn't realize exactly what that is?

I had a discussion with my pastor yesterday about medically assisted dying (he brought it up, not me) and he relayed some anecdotal information that I found very disturbing, basically that an elderly woman he was visiting was being pressured to end her life. Given the research I've done this morning I can't help but feel there is something off about this story so I sent him some information about the steps laid out in the law and the protocols that must be followed before anyone "gets the needle" as he termed it, it seems he actually feared this woman would have been dispatched since his last visit. I absolutely agree that too many doctors don't see older patient's problems as worthy of investigation or treatment but IMO pushing for euthanasia is highly unlikely. This kind of misinformation coming from someone who is highly educated and a community leader is very concerning.

Need, he does know her age. She has been good for him.

He was always a mommas boy, so it works out well for him. I just hope that he treats her better than he did the younger ones.

Real,

Men do it all the time, have a young woman so why not? Good for her!

Just curious, does he know her real age? Hahaha

I wonder how many people do lie about their age.

Or you could do what my brothers girlfriend did, got a man 25 years her junior. He will be taking care of her.

I think that she wanted to raise him up and train him. 😋

Willie, at this point in your life any man you met would probably want you to be their caregiver. The last thing you need I'm sure.

Never say never but why do people always assume if you are single that it's not by choice. There are many days where I wish I was.

Mom went and saw Dad today at hospice. According to her and the nurse, he looks dreadful but tried to get mom to take him out of hospice. (not going to happen) He was talking, not making much sense and was confused. He's barely eating. He's wasting away, losing a lot of weight. The doctor is turning off his defibrillator on Tuesday, my SIL is dropping off the POA to mom tomorrow. Besides that and receiving a nasty response from a poster on here, I am just in a great mood..NOT.

It will soon be the one year anniversary of mom's death and the Pastor stopped by today for a visit. I've got to give the man points for trying, he does his best, but he really does say some pretty dumb things sometimes. Today wasn't the first time he's asked me if I'm looking for a man and told me the story of someone who married for the first time later in life. Enough already. And for that matter why does he assume I want a man, does he not even consider the possibility I might be gay? (I'm not, but I know half the people in the community where I grew probably assume I am)

Guess what I did? I woke up early to cook so I wouldn’t have to cook after church. I completely forgot today was the fall picnic! I cooked and I didn’t have to. Oh well. We will it it tomorrow.

Perfect weather for the picnic. 80 degrees and sunny! Life in Louisiana! Father had the football game on a big projection screen. Who Dat! Hope we beat the Jaguars.

CWillie,
Your waist will be grateful.
Do you need some help padding the walls? That stuff comes in colors, and is used for sound proofing. The church uses it also to improve the acoustics in the sanctuary.

For a quick fix, use a construction stapler, and staple egg crate mattress pads to the walls.

Is it too cold to tour your local garden center?

So, which is the least depressing - going to church today or staying home bouncing off the walls looking for something to occupy my time?

Just came across another Facebook comment, from my BIL’s first wife where she mentions my husband and his salary! There’s been a lot in the news the last few weeks as his union has been in contract negotiations with the city for a year now and today the city is making their final, best offer. The union is fighting against it because it includes a pay cut amongst other not good changes. of course there has been talk of what the employee salaries are as some think they already are paid too much, some think they deserve a raise. They aren’t asking for a raise, they are asking that their wages not be cut. Anyway my BIL divorced this gal over 10 years ago and this is about the 3rd time in 2 weeks I’ve seen her posting things about knowing my husband, how long he’s worked there and what his salary is. His salary is public, anyone who knows his name can easily look up that information. It is just so weird because her & BIL split up 15 years ago! She doesn’t even live in this state anymore and I would hardly say we know her! It’s silly to let this bother me so much but it does. She doesn’t even know what he actually does and what division he is now, she just knows his title because now it’s public record but she goes on and on like they are they friends or something! It is very very weird! She even sent someone in the comments section a screen shot of his salary info because she couldn’t get it to post as a comment. She’s been out of our lives for 15 years so I don’t understand why she does this! She’s talked about him in the crime group too but this just takes the cake!

I'm around guys. Just been so caught up with everything in my personal life lately that I haven't been available emotionally to give people proper answers or feedback. I don't want to be redundant in my answers. But I'm reading and comment when I think I might have something original to say.

Thx for noticing my absence.
