Find Care & Housing
I popped in to see mom on my walk this morning, I haven't been there that early all winter. I found mom wide awake asking for my sister... then she was trying to tell me something but couldn't put together a coherent sentence. Mom hasn't even tried to communicate for so long, at least not when I'm there. I don't know if this is her normal in the a.m.? Even though I'm there every day I just feel so out of the loop.

I saw it too freqflyer and I thought it was a hoot too.
Iv'e always loved that show,so I'm glad they're back with new real life problems.
At first though,I really thought Jackie was dead,I mean with the shrine and all~but that's Rosanne's humor for ya.

Anyone watch the new "Roseanne" show, same house, same cast, but 20 years later the kids are grown [again same cast] and there are grandkids.

It was a hoot. Roseanne and her hubby Dan were sitting at the kitchen table sorting out their pills for the daily pill boxes, and Rosanne has a stair lift. Darlene [Roseanne's daughter] came home to help take care of her parents. Pretty funny stuff :))

I think resting b***h face is kind of how you look when you are constipated and you just slammed your finger in the door but you are trying to look normal.

Saw a great example of a "resting b***h face" but the file format wouldn't work to use as my avatar. It was a picture of a female dog sleeping, with it's tongue hanging out.

How'd I do?

Send, I think that guy was trying to pick me up cause after that day he'd always be talking to me. One day I was putting all my nickels and dimes in the machine to buy a ticket and suddenly I hear this voice behind me say "what, break your piggy bank?". Another time, "catch the Grizzlies game last night?" LOL Finally one day I saw him chatting up some other girl and I said to him "is that all you do all day, flirt with the girls?" He said "yeah, why not, nothing else to do"

Oh, Cwillie! You meant I would be balancing that "self-balancing" unicycle.
I thought the unit would be self-balancing...like a self-driving car!

Great for your nephews, but for a senior, another way to fall going at a faster rate.

The things people can invent are amazing!

Looking that up Gershun. I think I will see me there....

Presumptuous of the skytrain employees! Out of bounds, imo. There is nothing wrong with resting faces....what were they always watching you, stalking you? Sheesh.
Or, putting you down was a far out "pick up line?"

Speaking of smiling.............I used to hate it when guys would walk up to me and say Smile! I remember waiting for the Skytrain in the morning when I was going to work and one of the Skytrain attendants coming up to me and saying "How come I never see you smile?". I said, look around you............Is anyone smiling?

I think I have what is known as "resting b***h face" :) Look it up on Google. There really is such a thing.

I was talking to one of my nephews today and he was telling me about a new gadget that I had never heard of, the self balancing electric unicycle. You've got to check out the videos... unbelievable! (Obviously for those with more money than sense)

"Smile"

Smile tho' your heart is aching
Smile even tho' it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky
You'll get by

If you smile
Thro' your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shin-ing thro' for you

Light up your face with gladness
Hide ev-'ry trace of sadness
Altho' a tear may be ever so near

That's the time
You must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying
You'll find that life is still worth-while

If you just smile....

FreqFlyer, uhm... not very surprising. We have noticed that if you’re Asian or brown skin, the Caucasians treat us as inferior. I think, too, it’s because we’re from a small island that is ‘backward ‘, not as modernized as the US Mainland. The good news is ... Caucasians are no longer the number 1 place when it comes to rudeness/snobbery. Currently there are 2 Asian countries vying for that position now.... and yes, when I smile to Caucasians here on island, they don’t smile back. Come to think of it, I’ve actually stopped smiling to them automatically.. unless they show friendliness to me first.

The topic of smiling is interesting. I live just outside of Washington DC and I do volunteer work at a local hospital at the information-desk, and my desk-mate and I are always saying "good morning" or "good afternoon" to visitors and patients coming in the door.... and probably 8 time out of 10, we get a smile and a nod or "good morning" back to us. And we live in a large diverse area. Thus, all cultures coming through the door :)

One thing I have noticed and so has my desk-mate [who was born and raised in India] is that if either of us escort a visitor to where they need to go, we always get a warm thank you from different cultures.... plus she gets thanks you from her own culture... except we find from the white Americans not so much [which is my culture], unless they are elderly. We find that very interesting.

Bookluvr,
People do not always smile back. For some cultures, it is almost like a rule not to smile.

Smiling for my own health and happiness, it doesn't really matter if they smile back.
And yes, when they do smile back, it feels good. My smile muscles are working better now.

Ah, Send, when I went to the states - Colorado, Las Vegas, and Virginia - my siblings told me not to smile a lot. When I smiled to the Walmart sales lady, the cashiers, they didn't smile back. I smiled to the mom & pop Asian store people when I entered, and they just stared at me with unsmiling face. When I made my purchases and smiled and said thank you, they did not smile back, etc... It was a culture shock. I was warned over and over to not smile at strangers, etc... But it's very hard Not to smile when I spent most of my life smiling at strangers, at cashiers, at sales clerks back home in our small island.

So, it must be a challenge for you to practice smiling. Did people smile back? It always feels good when they do.

Coming on over here to visit, a short visit.
Everyone is having such a difficult time, and there were no words.
I have been spending a lot of time praying lately.

Today, it was dedicated to hubs and his needs for follow-up at the doctor and an ultrasound two hours later, so we stayed out there. I waited in several parking lots in the rain for him after going in with him once. We enjoyed a healthy lunch out together.
In keeping with my changing my attitude, I smiled a lot, at nothing. But, I smiled.

OK, that brought a tear to my eye.

My Utopian society would find something useful for everyone to do regardless of age and ability. I can remember when I was little the ladies at the nursing home could take an active role in the kitchen peeling potatoes or nibbing strawberries (I'm not sure about the gents). In traditional societies the old women watch the kids while the younger women do the heavy work. Today we just don't have any place for those who can't put in a full day at work or meet 100% of the requirements listed in a job description.

I found a new webcomic that plays instrumental Japanese background music. The comic is obviously of the olden times because they're wearing robes. I'm on the 1st chapter and it just irritates me on how ... the posters make fun of the woman (geisha-style wear) wearing.. Gasp! 'socks and sandals' !!! {{{shaking my head}}} .. Hello, people! She is wearing the traditional socks called tabi and the traditional (usually wooden) shoes called geta... Beautiful music but I need to stop reading the comments because it's almost midnight and their comments are making me upset. I do want to be able to sleep tonight.

Susan, I like my food to be freshly cooked. I'm not crazy about 'leftover' foods from the previous day. When I read how you would cook several eggs ahead of time, I kind of frowned about that. But, it must have been percolating subconsciously in my mind. Today, as I was sitting down trying to figure out what I want to eat for dinner, a thought popped up about breakfast instead. You see, I'm sick and tired of daily breakfast of microwavable burrito - whether with eggs/potatoes or chicken/rice, etc... I'm sick of burritos.

I bought a loaf of bread for my peanutbutter snacking. Yesterday, I bought salami. And as I was sitting here, a thought popped up that I can have tomorrow for breakfast a toasted sandwich with salami and over-medium egg! I will just have to cook the egg tonight, put it in the fridge, and just micro it tomorrow morning! Yes!!! Oh, man... If only I have fresh avocado, it would go great with it....

Pam, you can still sell your unusual perfume bottles by updating it to modern style. Depending how you feel about doing that. If I love an odd-shape, beautiful (in my eyes) perfume bottle, I would not do anything to 'modernize' it.

I have a friend who flea markets for a living, in the south. She does very well with fabrics to movie companies. If I could only find someone who would pay the bucks for lots of deer and squirrel mounts! LOL I could really add to FILs bank account!
