Buying clothes online for a nursing home resident; suggestions?

PLEASE do not buy online and ship directly to the nursing home. If ALL clothing and personal items are not clearly marked forever, they will be "lost" or stolen.

My mother has had ALL of her clothes stolen, marked or not. She's about a size 6-8 and they give her 3x clothing to wear.

I'm sorry for the bad news, but it is reality. NOTE: this includes pictures, personal items, treasured family heirlooms, etc.

Why bother with new clothes? Consignment shops are great! Just put them in the wash and dryer and they are good as new! If visitors are not allowed, just wrap them put and mail them.

I bought elastic waist pants and jeans, snap cardigans, t-shirts, sweatshirts with prints and designs, and even Easy Spirit slip on's. My mom loves them all. She's 89 and very petite

My grandmother is very picky about the fit of her clothing--has to be soft, nothing to rub/irritate skin, waist bands stretchy but not tight, etc. She's liked ordering things from several of the stores others have already mentioned. One I didn't see is Soft Surroundings. My grandmother likes to catalog shop (she still calls customer service to order by phone!), and that's one of the catalogs that's been showing up for years. She's liked the things she's gotten from there.

You may want to try jcpenney.com ,belkcom, or blair.com. These websites all have petite sizes And brands that make soft fabric clothing.

I found pants on Amazon that my mom really likes. They are Sivvan Women's Scrubs Drawstring Cargo Pants (Available in 15 Colors). They come in sizes XX small to 5X. It says drawstring but it's an elastic waistband with a drawstring. These pants are pliable and easy to wash and keep clean. They're comfortable and they have lots of pockets. The material is not plush like stretchy pants or yoga pants, but they are not coarse either.

My mom has skin issues and very sensitive skin which rips and bruises very easily. She loves these pants. And I love how they have the different colors that match the pretty tops and jacket that she has. Mom lives at home with me. And she wears these pants around the house and also out to some of the activities that we do. I wasted so much money buying different pants online that she didn't like or the sizing was inaccurate, the material was flimsy or see-through, style didn't match the description or they were just cheaply made. Then I found these pants. At first I ordered just 1 pair. But now she has about eight pairs of them in different colors.

As as a caregiver, my favorite feature of these pants are the pockets. My mom's able to put her phone in the pocket and it STAYS in the pocket. She can put tissues, lipstick, whatever small items that she can't really carry in hand because she needs to wheel around in a wheelchair or use a walker. It saves me from having to carry those things in my hand when I'm supposed to be supervising her walking. And it also saved me trips from running back and forth between her room and wherever else in the house. Also it makes her feel better about herself because the pocket gives her more Independence and self-sufficiency. She's been able to put these on herself. So they're pretty easy to put on. They're pretty lightweight but they're not see-through.

They're also very affordable at $15 a pair. If you have a Prime Membership with Amazon, the shipping is free. You might want to try one pair and see how y'all like them.

I went back and looked at my order and checked the dimensions. The inseam is still 30 in. I know you said you don't sew. Here's a few tricks you could try :

* make two 1-inch folds at the bottom of the pant leg, use iron and starch it, and then tack on inside seam and the outside seam with a hand stitch to make a cuff - stitch it strong enough to hold on a button.
* some fabric stores like Jo-Ann's are still open and they have seamstresses in the sewing machine sales department that love to teach; if you went into one of them and told them straight up what your issue is, I'm betting that they will show you how to do it and even help you buy the little tools that you need. I'd take the pants with me to show them what you're trying to do.
*There's also some simple instructions on hand stitching hems on YouTube .
*You can also try hem tape that you iron on and requires no sewing at all. This work sometimes, but sometimes it comes loose after several Washings. But it could get you by until the Taylor's open up.
*Another option is to contact the local church that has a quilting group; they may do it for you or one of their members may be taking in work at their home.
*I consider myself a novice sewer compared to my mom and my friends who sew like the wind. But I make Halloween and cosplay costumes on my sewing machine , just finished a cover for my ottoman, and I know how to do hems. If you lived near me, which is Houston Texas, I'd do it for you.

Alfred Dunner brand pants can be found in petite sizes at retail stores and online. That brand favors the elder population in style, quality and sizing. I, myself, like them and yes, I am an elder.

Petite short pants with elastic waist can be purchased at kohl’s.

I buy clothes for my brother. It's very difficult because he is difficult to fit and difficult to please. I have better luck going to the upscale Goodwill stores on the days when they are having sales. I buy a couple of different sizes at $1.50 - $3.00+ for shirts and more for pants. Then if he doesn't like something or it doesn't fit, it's no big deal to either donate it back or better yet, give it to the facility for someone else to use. I thoroughly wash everything before I take it in for him. Of course, I buy underclothes online brand new. He goes through clothes so fast it's not worth paying a lot of money to buy new online for shirts, pants, etc. Hope that helps.

I order online a Blair.com for my mother. I have discovered if I buy the regular capris that they are about the correct length for slacks for her. I hope this helps.

I go to Blair or National catalogs on line. Only problem with them is that returning merchandise is expensive. For my Mom, I have to order short and I, too, have had to have them hemmed. But, Mom doesn't mind wearing capris, so I buy them in a ladies' size and they work out pretty well for her. She, too, needs a 25-26 inch length. Would buying a ladies size capri work out for you? Is she in a wheelchair daily? Length wouldn't matter that much if she is.

Some people I know seem to have good luck at one of those Salvation Army stores. It might be worth looking into.

I have very good luck on-line with K-Mart and Penneys. Not sure about the Petite choices. I get all my t-shirts from Penneys and all my pants from K-Mart. All in cotton.Prices are reasonable.

Have you tried Lands' End? The sport knit pant is "like sweats only better" and I believe they not only come in petites but also might hem them....although I don't know if they are hemming at this time. If they can't/won't post on Next Door for someone who does it in their home and you might get a response. They may be similar to the LL Bean, but they are probably less expensive with the many sales...

My MIL loves Blair. She is 5'4 and loves the elastic waist on their clothes.

I think the catalog is called Blair - it’s wonderful for sizes, price, and mobility in the clothing. My mom is 78 with a bad tremor and has limited mobility because of polio as a child. We find this catalog ( maybe a site?) really helpful! Cute, too!

I can’t say enough great things about LL Bean “Perfect Fit” pants for women! For $39.95 these pants always look fantastic after multiple washings. My mother is tiny! Only 85 pounds, and she fits in small petite. The inseam is 28,” just a little longer than you want. But if you got these hemmed, they will last for years! My mom is about 5’2” or 5’3”. She has 5 black pairs (they have other colors) of these very comfortable pants (no zippers or buttons). They are washed weekly, sometimes in extra hot water. They come out always looking fabulous, like you could wear them out to dinner!

I was so impressed with the durability and comfort of these pants that I bought two pairs for myself. And I do wear them out to dinner. They keep their shape. LL Bean has a great return policy, very customer service oriented.

They also sell Pima cotton shirts that are super soft. Especially wonderful for the elderly. My mother and I have a number of their shirts. The company really stresses quality and comfort. It is a US company, headquartered in Maine and it has been around for over 100 years. So they must be doing something right!

Try "Blair" clothing on line. I used to get the items via a catalogue that came in the mail. Just checked and found them online also. Soft, easy to put on and take off, elastic waist bands. good choice of colors. I have purchased for mother (5'2") and they were nice and not real expensive. I also did a lot of search through second hand stores. Not brand new , but excellent condition and cheap. As time goes by our elder loved ones gain and loose. There is iron-on hemming tape that you can very easily use to shorten pants. Heat n bond is one, but there are other brands. No sewing needed! Good luck!

I am getting ready to place an order for my mom for her birthday who is in late stages of Alzheimer's.

I get my brothers from Amazon. I do have to hem, but I don't mind. He's mostly in a wheel chair, but don't want any trips when going to the bathroom. JC Penny's also has good quality and reasonable prices. I stopped buying expensive clothes because I'm not able to do the laundry and they crucify clothes when washed. They also get stained easily - so new ones are ordered each quarter...

Amazon . You can limit the search criteria. I bough size 5 1/2 shoes for my Mom as well as petite jeans with elastic waist. Plus if they don’t work they have easy return policies.

I love the petite scrubs off of Amazon soft and cotton. Lots of pockets for tissues. Also any pull on pant. My mom who hated walmart clothes loved the soft knit pull up pants with a draw string Walmart sells.
