My wife and I are over 70 years old and are not in good health. My wife is disabled and we care for our 23-year-old grandson. For the last 20 years we have live in a 4 bedroom house. We need to move to a smaller house or bungalow with 2 bedrooms. We live in Devon but we would like to live somewhere else even though we have our own garage and gardens.

I am assuming here since you use the word "gardens" that you are from the UK. Also the word Devon. We do have a few members from the UK.

Do you have a question or just giving us some background?

Why are you caring for a 23yr old grandson? Does he have disabilities? I have a disabled nephew I over see and he is able to live alone. I am 72 (Husband 75). I will not take on my nephews care if his disability gets worse. I have and will continue to find resources for him. He has coordinators that help him with his daily living.

The grandson is of age and you are having problems related to age. Please, please put yourself first.

Hi Unicornsky
Welcome to the forum.

Sometimes people come back and give updates. Not as often as we would like.
Many post a question and don’t respond to the answers that are given. A few months later, some will come back and basically ask the same question.
Others will engage until they get some useful information that they plan to try.
We often have caregivers come back and let us know their loved one has died. We have gotten to know one another as part of our answers will have a bit to do with the loved one we are caring for.
If you read enough of the posts and answers you can get a feel for the human condition of caregivers and their issues across much of the globe. There is no one answer to a problem as the circumstances can be very different with the resources available. Even in the US each state has slightly different circumstances.

So the updates are not in the traditional sense. Some of the stories, as you saw, are from years ago and have been closed for more comments but one can see the ebb and flow of much that the elder community lives through and deals with. So in that sense the story is updated daily as new folks find the forum and weave their experience in with those who came before.

In your case it appears you are a caregiver to two and I can imagine that is very difficult and you are concerned with increasing age and how that will affect all three of you.

Downsizing is usually a good idea though stressful in itself.
There are two regulars who are moving now. If you click on the word moving under your post, it will lead you to more info on that subject. The other tabs work the same way.

We have a few regular posters from the UK who give us a glimpse of your country.
Country Mouse being one. Bailey being another. I’m sure there are others.

So welcome again and hopefully you will find the forum useful.

Hi, Unicornsky:
Welcome to Forum and thanks for telling us about yourself.
I, like you, often wonder about the "outcome" or update on some of these stories.
Do you have any specific question for yourselves or are you asking for updates?
Interestingly I just found one update on a month old post about a court action, but you will find that often the OP (original poster) doesn't return to update us. Sadly, because we ALL wonder what happened in a lot of the cases.
Some do return.
Overall Forum is for people to ask a question and get the opinion of people who regularly read the forum and may have advice.
Like you, I wish people returned more consistently.
