And the child report this income on their tax return and pay self employed taxes?
My father requires elder care. His adult children are providing this care and they are being compensated $14 an hour for this care. Also are my parents able to deduct these costs under medical deductions on Schedule A?

talk to a cpa or a EA. It can be 1099 or w-2 and yes you will pay ss taxes. Then the parents will be able to deduct it on sch A. I would go to someone other then AARP. They do basic tax returns. They are great but this is out of their range . and go in Jan when they have the time to work with this.

Yes. help your folks to gather up all their tax items and their prior years and find where ever in your area that AARP and their AARP Tax-Aide program &/or the IRS VITA/TCE program is doing outreach & schedule an appointment for them.

The AARP one has income requirements. The VITA one is usually done in conjunction with your ARea on Aging outreach programs. In my moms city, both are done in the community rooms of malls, or at a Goodwill that has training center as those have tables & chairs; also at OASIS sites. The slots fill up too!

Yes, but its probably goingbto be a w-2. 1099 is for independent contractors.
