Has anyone had experience with the new Pure Wick for men? The bag looks huge to me and i cant figure out why it's incredibly expensive ($800+???). I dont think our loved one would tolerate having that one (did a previous post on Texas Catheters tonight and meant to include this)--i dont even think they'll tolerate the texas catheter and this pure wick seems bigger/more involved and so expensive-but just wondered as a it seems like many folks like this product historically, thanks

Find Care & Housing
I never heard of a pure wick for men, and not sure how that could actually work for them, but I guess if there is a buck to made the health care system will try anything.
My late husband did have a condom catheter used on him when he was in the hospital back in early 2018, and that seemed to work ok, but only because they didn't want him getting out of bed.
However later in 2018 my husband after trying all of the active bladder medications, and having Botox put in his bladder which none of it helped his severe incontinence, his urologist decided that a supra pubic catheter was the way to go. And I must say that that was a Godsend as we were we both able to sleep all night long for the first time in about a year, and all I had to do was empty his catheter bag twice a day.
You may want to talk to your loved ones urologist about the supra pubic catheter, which is a permanent catheter that is placed right above ones belly button.

Yes, purewick is always very expensive. Moreover, if you read back on AC at all you will see constant posts for people trying to sell or give away the equipment and unused catheters. In all truth I haven't asked WHY so many are unused. Perhaps the intended users have passed.

Hope someone has used and can give you useful information here. The catheters work well for women, but quite honestly only if they are immobile and for the most part stuck on their backs. Given the attempts in bedrest care to attempt to prevent bedsores, that's seldom the case. Purewick worked well for my friend with total hip surgery for three days. She was having to take a long time to get up due to needing to apply leg braces, and then get up with assistance; all taking too long with her urgency. She didn't use it past an initial three days. My friend who died in Hospice just a year and one half ago didn't like hers and didn't use and I honestly didn't ask why. I was, in all truth not aware there is a device now for males.
