My mother is going to be 81 in June, currently have a sitter for 3: to 6: P.M. to sit and talk, play cards, etc. Need someone to go in, in the morning, make sure she is up and see that she takes morning meds, and she may need help to bath, generally just washes up and needs better hygiene. Wash clothes and sheets periodically. She needs motivation and guidance. Could use someone to cook light meals and just keep her busy. Not sure that she needs 24 hr care. I do have a sister that is suppose to move home by June 1, move in with her to assist us with her care.

Find Care & Housing
Far better to have her look at Assisted Living if she is still social. She will be with people her own age and get 3 meals a day and lots of activities. A good facility will offer a one month trial and help sort out the financial aid. Well meaning move-ins burn out within a few months. We moved mom to ALF March 1st and within two weeks she said "This is the best move I ever made"

Did you hire the current sitter from an agency? If so you can work on getting more hours with the agency. Hours based on your mom's needs. As her needs change the hours of the caregiver will have to change. You also have to take into consideration your mom's schedule. Is she an early riser? Can you get someone from 8a-12p? Or a 12-hour shift, 8a-8p. I'm sure you can also have 2 separate shifts, one for the morning and one in the afternoon/early evening. Work with your agency, they'll help you figure it out based on what your mom needs. But if you need someone to do domestic chores in addition to caring for your mom the shifts will have to be longer than 3 hours.
