My 69 year old wife has cancer. She receives S.S. I am 66 years old. I receive S.S. That is our only income. I can not leave her alone for any length of time as she needs attending. Meals cooked, laundry, shopping, transportation to her doctors in Connecticut as well as NYC. I can not afford a healthcare aide. We need additional income for food, rent, gas and medical co-payments, etc. I would like to get a job but as stated above she needs my care. Can I get paid to take cares of her?

See if you and your wife can qualify for Medicaid to help you with the medical costs. Contact your State Medicaid office.... please note that each State is different with their own rules, regulations, and programs.

As for the other items, check with your local Social Services to see if you can apply for food stamps, etc.

Check the LIHEAP program for help with heating and utilities. Check for local food pantries. Check for reduced prescription meds. Check with Cancer related organizations to see if they offer any grants. Check with a local house of worship to see if any members can sit with your wife while you run errands. Often help doesn't come as a check to you but rather as lower costs from several areas.

Are you or your wife a vet? Perhaps she would then qualify for aid and attendance. And I echo the others' suggestions, call the office of aging at the county level.
