Confused before or after breakfast? Does he have any hints of diabetes? If he has type II, non-insulin dependent diabetes, risperidone can stimulate appetite and throw the sugar levels off. Talk to the MD if it continues.

My dad was given that in a rehab/nursing home. It really screwed him up. He has maybe mild dementia at best. On risperidone he came across as having severe dementia or Alz. But once we got him home, we took him off it. But initially at home he would say that - that he wanted to go home or needed to go home - he didn't recognize he was home. That was last summer. He is fine now.

My father was given that and it didn't help, nursing homes prescribe it because they get kick backs for it. Give it a few weeks for him to adjust on it, and if it doesn't help, get him off. Check to see if he should be slowly weaned off of it first, I'm not sure.

My husband was on risparidone for a week but had weird side effects - paranoia and delusions mostly. His MD took him off it and he's not on any anti-psychotic now.

It's funny how meds are so different for everyone...

My Mom had daily panic attacks, we tried several drugs and risperidone (0.25mg 2X daily) was a life saver.. It stopped all panic attacks and paranoia.. It does make her drowsy but that I can deal with.. Better than her shouting for me at 4am to call an ambulance and blabbing non stop nonsense..

Thank you all for your comments. Doctor took my husband off Risperodone after four days because I said he was having delusions. He is now on adivan. Hopes that helps. I felt so bad for him. This is my husband for 35 years and he was so out of it and pitiful looking. I just could not do that to him anymore so I told the doc we had to find a better way.

What were the once daily doses taken by the adverse reactors? It's important to start at the lowest dose, one mg.
