My mother is in a nursing home. She called doing the night complaining about her hospital bed and sheets are uncomfortable. Has anyone in a nursing home who has had that problem with an uncomfortable hospital bed and sheet. What to do to solve the issue?
Thanks in advance.
Ann
What kind of bed is it? A traditional mattress or a rotating mattress that is used to prevent pressure sores?
Does she have any pressure sores that are causing her to be uncomfortable?
Does she have any kind of pain that is making her unable to get comfortable?
Can’t they change the sheets? Maybe she would prefer soft flannel sheets? Unless she is prone to being hot at night? Is she normally hot or cold in the evening?
Some people like weighted blankets too.
If someone wants the fleece sheets and their family is willing to wash them and make sure they have a spare set, there's no reason for the nursing home to refuse. There's also no reason why you should have taken no for an answer. I certainly wouldn't.
Nursing homes do what's easiest and cheapest. What the patient wants or likes usually is not given consideration.
Families usually just fold and do what they say if they throw in the word 'policy' and no one should.
I've had lots of care clients who had hospital beds and they say the same thing.
You buy a piece of memory foam for a twin bed then trim it if you need to. That's what I always did.
If you bring in the sheets for your mother, you will have to be responsible for that laundry because the nursing home won't do it.
Buy a few sets of sheets that your mother likes. Put them in the bedside cabinet by your mother's bed. Then leave instructions that when they change the bed, you will come and get the linens.
I totally get where your mother is coming from. I sleep on 800 thread count or higher American cotton sheets and nothing else.
I will say that the NH uses the knit sheets that look comfortable. You might also check the temp, noise and light of the room. So many factors to consider to get a good nights sleep. Some of which we have no control.
