My mother is 92 years old, and she lives in a nursing home. My mother is complaining that the hospital bed is not comfortable. They have changed and provided her with a new hospital bed, but she is still complaining. We have gone out and purchased a mattress topper and mattress pad, but the staff has rejected both of them. They said what we purchased was rejected because sometimes she wet her bed, and they need something they can easily wipe and sanitize. My question is "Does anyone know what else we could put on her bed where she can be comfortable in, and the staff can wipe down easily and sanitize?"Thanks.Ann

Can you get a moisture proof mattress cover that will fit over everything?

She may need a medical air pressure mattress for her hospital bed - one that circulates the air and minimally changes the position of the patient.

However, those mattresses can also be difficult to get used to - or in some cases - get into or stay in depending on how stable physically the person is. Sometimes they struggle with the height of the mattress or the undulating of the air.

But it might help. Those come with the same covering as the regular hospital beds.

Hospital beds have special mattresses, usually foam. They are covered in a material that can be wiped down.

I agree with BlueEyedGirl.
Now the question is will they provide you this at no cost. If she is on Hospice sometimes they can get this. Is she frail? How is her skin condition? Sometimes you can get this ordered by MD prescription.
