Dad lives with sister but doesn't cook. I live farther away...how can we remedy this?

First, why can’t your dad or sister prepare a meal? Is there a good reason for that? Is there any reason why one them can’t throw a frozen TV dinner in the microwave? I mean that’s better than going hungry right? I’m just curious why in a household with 2 adults, you are stuck trying to figure out how to get your dad fed.

Maybe you can sign him up for meals on wheels? There are also lots of food delivery services like grub hub and Uber eats, you can order food from a fast food restaurant or a sit-down restaurant and have it delivered to your dad. Do your dad or sister belong to a church? The church may have volunteers who can provide a few meals a week. Good luck!

Can you add some details? How old is your dad and does he have any physical or cognitive challenges? Is it his sister or your sister?

My husband gets Meals on Wheels and we love the food and the service. I am fully capable of cooking and live in the home as his fulltime caregiver. We are eligible under respite care for me, and his disability prevents him from using a microwave or stove; and because we can donate money to help cover the cost, eligibility is not an issue. You can donate as much or as little as you can afford. you really should reapply...that one midday meal has really helped keep him healthy.

I think that you need to provide more information if you really want help with this.

Your responses are not very nice when people have taken time to answer you.

Provide information as to what the complications are or make the trip and teach both of them how to use a microwave or toaster oven.

Sue, I have a 100-yr old aunt in FL caring for her 97-yr old sister with dementia (who just broke her foot -- yikes!) I convinced them to use an online frozen meal service. Can your dad or sister use a microwave or toaster oven? I believe the service is called Gourmetkitchen.com. They are tastier meals than what you can find in the grocery store and a big variety for all kinds of diets. I've eaten them and they're good. My aunt gets the catalog and calls in her orders. Also, you can order fresher foods to be delivered from their local grocery store (a person can't really live healthy on just frozen foods alone...) Hope this helps!
