My Mother passed away on May 17th 2019. We received her SS check in the beginning of May becuase of course we didnt know the exact date she would pass. When we called SS they said to go to the SS office and return the check for May. The undertaker told me the opposite. He said don't get the June check but the May check is ok.

I don't know what to do. Has anyone had this problem or does anyone know if the check for May is hers or does it have to be returned??

I am sorry for the loss of your Mom. Mine passed April 15, and her April 2 check had already been deposited of course. They did not ask for it back. She didn’t get one on May 2. I think you got bad info from SS.

The person you talked to at SS is wrong. Mays check is April payment you Mom is entitled to that. She is not entitled to Junes, which is Mays the month she passed. Is the check direct deposit? If u can, leave it there. If SS takes it back, call them and tell them they errored. I wish they would train their reps better.

Different people give different answers. They need to get their facts straight.

The check you receive each month is payment for the PREVIOUS month. The undertaker is correct. You keep May check which is payment for April.

My mother just passed two days ago. The 2nd of June. I was wondering the same thing. It was direct deposited on the 31st of May.
