Today I went to the store and ordered a sandwich from the deli section. Nobody was directly behind the counter. An employee walked up and found somebody. The young guy grudgingly walked up and asked if I'd been helped. I said no. He complained that there are 3 other people who work that section! he was trying to be angry(?) "Congratulations! It's your lucky day!! You get to take MY ORDER 🤗🙃" Smiling, I handed him the order and said I'd be back in a few minutes. I think he thought he was going to be greeted by a grumpy shopper.. When I go to this grocery store, I get a sandwich to share with my 98 year old friend. This way I know she will eat something today. Sometimes she doesn't feel like fussing around the kitchen.

We go to the same pizza place alot. There has been a young girl there since high school, now in 2nd year of college. This girl never smiles. I feel like she doesn't even like me. But then she does something for me in some small way. Still no smile.

To quote Dolly Parton:  “If you see someone without a smile, give them yours”, which encourages kindness and generosity through small, thoughtful gestures. It is always nice to see a smile from a customer.

Being in retail when I was younger I know I felt more compelled to help resolve a problem if it was done in a more friendly manner.

I was recently walking the track at my local rec center and got behind a man whose t-shirt said “everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about” None of us can know what might be going on in that young man’s life. I’m glad you gave him a smile
