I'm a caregiver for my DH. My daughter was here for 10 days and put lotion on my back after my shower. It stopped the itching. Now she has returned home and I have no one to apply the lotion.

How do other people handle this situation?

Welcome, Lucille!

Google "lotion applicators" and you will see a bunch of pretty low cost options.

Amazon also has several lotion applicators for hard to reach places. You could also use a back washing sponge.

There are applicators to apply lotion.
I am sure Amazon has them but if you do not shop Amazon your "big box store" like Walmart would probably have them as would most pharmacies.
If you find a "back scratcher" you could put a glove on it (use a plastic, nitrile glove so it does not soak into fabric) and that would make applying lotion easier. I would probably use a cream or ointment rather than a lotion. They are thicker and will keep moisture in your skin longer (unless this is a prescription lotion you are using)
Other suggestions
Do not use real hot water when you shower
Maybe shower every other day, this will keep natural oils on your skin.
Use a body soap designed to help retain moisture.

Thank you Grandma1954. I so have Amazon membership and will look for a lotion applicator. Much appreciated.

I can't recommend a back scratcher enough.

I use one that's like a 4" wide strap. It's vinyl so it can be washed or warmed. I've seen others that look like a smooth back scrubber, but I've not used that type. I think it depends on how much flexibility you have in your arms.

Thanks for the advise. I went on Amazon and got the applicator and bought Gold Bond anti-itch lotion and also Sarna anti-itch lotion at Walmart. I think I prefer the Sarna. Seems to work better and smells better.

Put a dollop of the lotion on a clean spatula with a long handle and reach over your shoulders to your upper back or reach it around from under your arms to your lower back.
