Share a few details and we will match you to trusted home care in your area:
If you don't want to talk to any facilities themselves I really cannot imagine how you will get information. We can tell you some costs for our own loved ones, but we are just a bunch of folks doing caregiving. So we aren't going to be a whole lot of help to you. The cost of facilities vary remarkably; in my own state of California SoCal is thousands per month less expensive over all than my own Bay Area. And even in SoCal where my brother's ex partner is still in care, the town to town costs vary often by 1,000 per month. Hemet California, about 40 minutes from Palm Springs is about 1,000 less expensive for the same care. Without calling ALF in your own area for an idea, you won't learn much, and I cannot fathom why you wouldn't want to do so? You can make it clear that you don't want call backs from them. You can tour facilities and talk to them about their levels of care, for which you pay according to level of care needed. You can ask how often to expect a raise, and why. If you want some sort of vague idea I will tell you that I think you are looking at, for a GOOD ALF with transportation, meals and etc. between 3,000 and 6,000 a month. This is with meals and with level one care, meaning not much assist and no delivered medications. This would be for one to two rooms. My brother paid 4,000 three years ago for two rooms and level one, self caring in Palm Springs. So here you have the opinion of one person with one person's personal experience. Were I you, and I was seriously thinking of ALF for my loved one or myself, I would take the full tours. And if you want them off the phone REAL QUICK and no follow up I know exactly what to say. When they call you you tell them "I am broke and applying for Medicaid." You won't hear from them again, hee hee. Very best of luck. And don't mistake us, those who answer you on Forum, with the ads of some of the sponsors on our site. We are just folks, some of us from other continents. When you do start seriously looking, then do know that the questions will seem intrusive. As to your needs. As to your finances. I finally got so when they asked I said, of my brother who was to be their possible future resident, "You are looking at about one million on the hoof". Of course everyone wanted him! Remember, this is a two way deal. You want care and they are a business that gives it. That's how all of this works in the USA anyway.
If you are referring to the site's "find care and housing" features you should know that AgingCare is affiliated with A Place for Mom, which is all about earning a commission by finding clients for those places who have hired them.
Pattycee, In order to get answers you are looking for you will have to talk to someone. Many AL (assisted living) will have a monthly rate. BUT added to the monthly rate are the "services" that are or can be provided. That can vary by facility and the charges will vary. And some will include some services at the basic rate. Some just start with some services included at the 1st "tier" and as the need for help increases so do the tiers and with that the cost. With the age your friend is is there a possibility that he is a Veteran? If so he may qualify for services that might either allow him to remain in his home if that is possible or he may qualify for a VA facility. But that depends on where he served, when he served and if he has what is referred to as a "service connected disability". To get this information you/or he can contact the local Veterans Assistance Commission and they, free of charge will help determine his eligibility. But bottom line you will have to talk to someone to get the information that will help you both make an informed decision. Also if this is for the friend you mention in your profile, with a diagnosis of cancer and heart disease is it possible that he might qualify for Hospice? (if he is terminal and no longer seeking treatment he should qualify) If so Hospice can be of help in finding a place. Is there is the possibility with the medical conditions he has he may qualify for Skilled Nursing and the cost of that would be different than that of AL.

Even if you call an Assisted Living Facility directly they won't give you rates over the phone even. Sometimes in life you just have to play by the rules of the place you're contacting. In this case, it's A Place for Mom and they require you call them for rates. Not go down there to speak to them in person, at least, as they'd do in a local ALF. You cannot even call a caregiving agency and get their rates over the phone! They want to come out to the home to do a personal assessment FIRST!!
Your friend should actually be the one making the calls and gathering the AL information, not you.
In the Denver Metro area, I was paying about $4200 a month for a studio apartment in Assisted Living for my mother, which included 3 caregiving services like assistance with showers, help getting dressed, etc. That was a few years ago so I'm sure those rates have increased since then.
Google care advisors for your area.. they will guide you, tour with you, answer cost questions, availability, etc.. you don’t pay them m they get paid by the placement facility. Definitely get someone local who knows the area
